Speech & Debate & Mock Trial tutoring develops core competitive skills across formats including Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Congressional Debate, and mock trial courtroom procedure, building proficiency in argumentation, legal reasoning, and persuasive public speaking. The tutor coaches students on case construction, flowing and flowing notation, direct and cross-examination technique, objection handling, witness preparation, and the specific rules and conventions of each competitive format. Sessions include timed speech drills, rebuttal and refutation practice, constructing opening statements and closing arguments, analyzing evidence cards, and running full practice rounds with real competition case materials. Students learn to think analytically under pressure, pivot strategically during cross-examination, read judge and audience expectations, and work as both individual competitors and collaborative team members. Yes. Many of our tutors are strong across several subjects, and sessions can cover more than one if that's what the student needs that week. Flexibility is built into how we work.
Most of our tutors continue working through breaks, either online or in-person at the college if the tutors remain on campus during that vacation. We'll let you know in advance if a tutor has a gap in availability and arrange coverage with one of our other tutors — in-person or online — in the required subject.
