Hi! I'm Claire, I'm a Smith College graduate in my 30's with a major in Sociology and a minor in Mathematics. I enjoy supporting students to analyze and organize information, think critically, and solve problems in a wide variety of subjects. Whether they are writing mathematical proofs or computer programs, analyzing literature, or creating art, my goal is to help students clarify their own ideas and communicate them effectively. I believe that successful students, in school and in life, practice befriending their own learning process, maintaining a growth mindset, and focusing on working smarter, not necessarily harder.

I simply love to learn, and I love the experience of helping students tap into their own love of learning. I love to learn about the different ways we learn and to facilitate that process. Neurodivergent myself, I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent students. I have greatly enjoyed camp counseling, especially for children with emotional and intellectual disabilities, and peer-coaching speech writing and delivery. Friends and relatives have sought my advice on planning the end of a semester or an international trip, writing a proposal for work, supporting their children with behavioral challenges, and tutoring math and computer science, despite my minimal experience with some of these endeavors!

In my spare time, I enjoy singing choral music, playing chess, and spending time with my family, especially outdoors.

My name is Annabel! I'm a tutor in South Hadley, Massachusetts. I’m a Psychology and Education major at Mount Holyoke College (class of 2028) with a NEXUS in Educational Policy and Practice. I plan to graduate with an elementary teaching license and hope to become an elementary teacher after I graduate. I am passionate about fostering curiosity in my students and helping them achieve their goals. I am so excited to give students the one-on-one support they need to flourish!

I tutor K-6 Core Subjects: Math, Science, English Language Arts and Literacy, History, and Social Studies. For grades 7-12, I tutor English Language Arts, Essay Writing, and Public Speaking Skills. I have previous experience working as a camp counselor as well as volunteer tutoring and helping with a wonderful organization that supported children experiencing grief, so I bring equal measures of enthusiasm and empathy to the table. I have course experience in topics like Children’s Literature, Developmental Psychology, and Educational Psychology that help inform my tutoring practices. I also grew up with a Children’s Librarian for a mother so I have a lifelong love of books that I’d love to share with my students. There’s countless statistics that show a correlation between the amount children read with their overall academic success but I won’t bore you with those.

In addition to tutoring elementary students, I’d also like to extend my services to 7-12th graders who need help improving their essay writing or public speaking skills, or need some extra support with English Language Arts classes. One of my favorite classes in high school was public speaking and it is such an important skill to have in life, despite how scary it might seem at first.

I’d love to help students hone their self-confidence and find their voice in speaking, writing, and decoding texts. I am so excited to help your students grow in their educational journey and celebrate their successes big and small!

My name is Rose and I’m a student at Mount Holyoke College majoring in Film, Media, Theater and Spanish. I'm so excited to be a tutor and mentor at The Shires Tutoring Company and I look forward to connecting with and guiding students on their academic journey.

I specialize in supporting elementary school students (K-4) in math and language arts (writing, reading, and spelling), as well as tutoring beginner-level Spanish.

Having personally experienced learning challenges, I bring empathy, creativity, and patience in my teaching. I strive to find personalized and engaging ways to help each child learn in the way that works best for them.

My background in Film, Media, and Theater allows me to approach teaching in a visual and creative way; making lessons fun, interactive, and accessible. My name is Christy! I offer tutoring in South Hadley, MA in Psychology, AP Government, AP United States History, High School Statistics, Latin I-IV, Flute, Art (Painting, Drawing, Digital). I am a freshman attending Mount Holyoke College planning to major in Neuroscience and additionally get a NEXUS in Data Sciences.

I’ve always had a passion for psychology and research and hope to fulfill my purpose as a tutor to help students discover their own interests. I volunteered at the Harvard Museum of Natural History during my high school years, helping visitors to learn about the exhibits and also engage in studio drawing of the various taxidermied species, helping foster an affinity for teaching and the Arts. Additionally, I have experience doing voiceover readings of chapter books to teach English to non-native speakers, as well as essay read throughs and corrections, specifically for Chinese students. Currently, I am active in my school’s community as a board member of the Asian Students Association helping to raise awareness of the many diverse talents of the Asian community at Mount Holyoke College, and a member of the Neuroscience Student Forum so I can continue to learn more about my prospective major and fellow students.

I am also in the Flute Choir, as I have been playing the flute since the third grade.

I hope to help all voices be heard through tutoring, so that students are able to pursue their career choices while having access to all the information they need to be successful in academic settings and ensuring they are having an enjoyable and educational experience in the process. Hi! My name is Zahra, and I offer tutoring in  Biology, Math, Chemistry, AP US Government, and English in South Hadley. I’m a first-year student at Mount Holyoke College, majoring in Psychology on the pre-med track. I’m fluent in Urdu and English, and advanced in Spanish. I’m comfortable working with elementary, middle, and high school students.

I’ve worked with students across a wide range of ages in both classroom and one-on-one settings. With younger students (ages 5–7), I worked as a teaching assistant, supporting small groups in reading and math and helping build strong foundational skills. I’ve also taught English as a second language to native Urdu speakers at the elementary level, focusing on vocabulary, sentence structure, and building confidence.

With middle school students, I spent two summers as a teaching fellow with Generation Teach, teaching math to rising 8th graders and environmental engineering to rising 7th graders. I also worked one-on-one as a peer mentor for an 8th-grade student, helping her build study habits and stay organized over time. Through my independent study, I taught neuroscience in Spanish to students ages 8–10 through hands-on workshops, helping them connect abstract concepts to real-world examples.

I focus on helping students build real understanding and confidence in their work. I adjust how I explain concepts based on each student and make sure they feel supported while learning. My goal is for students to leave each session with a clearer understanding and stronger problem-solving skills. I’ve completed college-level biology and chemistry coursework and have a strong background in math.

My name is Demi. I tutor in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where I’m a student at Mount Holyoke College. In addition to double-majoring in Psychology & Education and English, I am a research assistant to Professor Becky Wai-Ling Packard and am currently assisting her with research on forms of mentorship. I also work as a Disability Services Peer Fellow at the college, a role in which I create educational resources about disability broadly and the services offered on campus.

I tutor K-8 (English, math, and sciences), K-12 (English, grammar, and history/social studies), AP Exams (Statistics and Psychology), writing (formal, academic, and creative), PSAT and SAT (I scored 1440). At home (Upstate New York!), I am the Youth Summer Programming Coordinator at my local library. Over the summer, I lead weekly STEM workshops for students aged 5-12 that include activities like block programming and 3D printing.

Being in these positions over the years has solidified and bolstered my passion for education and supporting students, especially during moments of struggle and challenge. To me, learning is a process that can be exciting and rewarding. Every student deserves an opportunity to explore different means of learning (and there are so many!) and to find what “clicks” for them. This is a principle I bring into my tutoring.

Along with this, I bring enthusiasm, empathy, and patience to give students a safe space to explore new ideas, get things wrong, and celebrate their successes. I am especially enthusiastic about helping students hone their writing skills, as I have substantial experience in all forms of writing, from formal to creative! My academic writing has been recognized by Mount Holyoke College’s English department, and I have received multiple recognitions from the New York Press Association for newspaper articles I have written.

I’m Sheereen, a math and science tutor in South Hadley. I’m a freshman at Mount Holyoke College. As I plan to major in neuroscience in college most of my interests lie in sciences. I have always enjoyed math as well, and I have experience tutoring math as a part of MU Alpha Theta, an international mathematics honor society I joined in high school.

In all scenarios I am able to tailor my explanations based on the ages of the person I am tutoring and what they seem most perceptive to. This can be by slowing down my speaking or offering more relatable examples depending on age group. I begin tutoring by identifying areas of weakness and then building skills so that the larger concepts feel clear and manageable. In all cases I try to fit the structure of tutoring to the student, find ways to keep them more engaged and slow down or speed up as needed.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to support students as they move closer to their goals, and I look forward to helping more learners succeed.

Hello! My name is Elsa, and I am a junior at Mount Holyoke College. During the academic year I tutor in South Hadley, MA (in summer of 2026 I will be tutoring in Hanover, NH). I have a double major in Neuroscience and French, as well as a Nexus in Data Analytics and Society.

I have an undying love of learning, and I hope to share this passion with my students. My love of learning is what encouraged me to pursue neuroscience research. I never stop discovering new information, and the chemistry of the brain is what really fascinates me. In this same vein, my experience in neuroscience allows me to understand the brain and how we learn and retain new material so that I can provide the best learning methods for my students.

I also have an advanced level in the French language, and would love to help students learn French at any level, whether they need help with grammar, writing, or speaking practice. J’adore le français!

I am a well-rounded student, and particularly enjoy Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, English literature, Chemistry, French, and Neuroscience. I am passionate about encouraging students to try even if they don't understand at first. My name is Veronica, and I offer tutoring in South Hadley, Massachusetts. While in high school, I developed my own peer mentorship curriculum and served as a Kids Read Ambassador, tutoring and helping build literacy skills in kids K-5. I am a research assistant for Professor Jared Schwartzer in his neuroimmunology lab as well as Professor Becky Wai-Ling Packard assisting in her current mentor infrastructure oriented cross-disciplinary work. This has only bolstered my love of psychology, and in my capacity as a researcher I have spoken at and presented posters at numerous conferences in the US including the Society for Neuroscience in California most recently. I have a great deal of experience in research, writing and public speaking as a result.

I believe in acknowledging the validity of a student's struggles and their feelings about them and then working collaboratively to create a plan for their success.

My name is Tori, and I offering tutoring in South Hadley in Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry. I am a current sophomore at Mount Holyoke College majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Spanish on the pre-med track.

During my time in high school, I tutored students in math through the National Honor Society. I really enjoyed the time I spent tutoring, not only was I helping students become more proficient in math, but I was building connections with other students. Additionally, I have tutored elementary school neighbors while babysitting in high school. I am currently a researcher at Professor W. Chen’s lab, which investigates the chemistry of surfaces. I am also the secretary of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology chapter at Mount Holyoke College. Both positions have allowed me to take what I learned in the classroom and apply it to something more practical along with furthering my enthusiasm for science.

I have completed intro and developmental biology, up to Calculus I in math, and up to Organic I in chemistry. I have thoroughly enjoyed almost every class I have taken in my academic career.
