My name is Leo, and I’m an English and Creative Writing double major at Oberlin College and Conservatory. While at Oberlin, I worked as a Writing Associate Tutor and Screenwriting Teaching Assistant, which has informed both my skills in pedagogy and writing alike. Since early childhood, I possessed a deep obsession for creating art of any kind. I picked up the guitar first at the age of seven, and fell in love with music. From there, I sat down at a drum kit, and decided I didn’t want to get up. My love for writing sprouted around the same time, as I discovered just how cathartic it could be to put my thoughts down on paper. Reading and writing became my preferred method of entertainment and healing during the COVID-19 pandemic, as I decided around this time to begin taking it seriously. Since starting my journey through literature, I have written novels, short stories, feature-length screenplays, poems, and both journalistic and academic articles. I believe it is of utmost importance that both tutors and tutees find motivation in what they are setting out to achieve. The act of creating is a process that manifests differently for everyone, and the various ways that people find excitement in their work reveal how they best learn. As a tutor, it is my intent and privilege to grow alongside those I work with to create productive and personalized experiences that encourage continued excitement to learn.
