More about Giana

Hello! My name is Giana, and I am a sophomore at Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, double-majoring in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology and English. I am currently located on Emory’s Oxford campus, but will be matriculating over to Emory’s Atlanta campus starting August 2026 (it is no problem for me to commute to Atlanta for tutoring). I tutor students in Math, Biology, Chemistry, English, Psychology, SAT/PSAT/AP Prep, and Essay Development/Editing. I began tutoring in high school, where I discovered my passion for academia while serving as an English and Biology I tutor and later as a math tutor through Math Honor Society after completing AP Calculus BC. At Emory, I have continued to pursue teaching opportunities. I have worked as a laboratory teaching assistant for Biology I students and currently work as a supplemental instructor for Biology II, where I lead weekly review sessions, create study guides, and help students master the concepts of a historically challenging course in a collaborative learning environment. On the ACT, I scored 34 (Math 34, Reading 36, English 35, Science 32), and my AP scores were: Biology (5), Calculus BC (4), English Literature and Composition (5), Physics 1 (3), Psychology (4), and United States History (4). I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Morris County School of Technology’s Performing Arts Academy for the Dance Arts in 2024, where I was inducted into multiple academic honor societies, including National Honor Society, and earned the AP Scholar Award with Distinction. In addition to my academic background, I’ve spent most of my life as a competitive figure skater and worked as a figure skating coach for five years. Coaching students ranging from young beginners to adult skaters strengthened my ability to communicate efficiently, adapt quickly to different learning styles, and break down complex techniques into digestible steps to build confidence in my students. These skills translate directly into my academic instruction style: structured, patient, and results-oriented.

Frequently Asked Questions

How am I matched with a tutor?

If you have a specific tutor in mind, you're welcome to request them directly — we'll confirm whether they're available and the right fit for your student. Otherwise, Ryan writes a personal email to understand your student's needs, learning style, and goals — then handpicks a tutor from the roster. You're not filling out a form and getting assigned randomly. If the first tutor isn't the right fit after the first session, we'll find you a better match at no extra charge.

Can I book an introductory session before committing?

Yes. Many families start with a single session to see how the tutor and student connect before committing to a regular schedule. There's no pressure to book in advance — reach out and we'll set something up.

Can a tutor help with multiple subjects in the same session?

Yes. Many of our tutors are strong across several subjects, and sessions can cover more than one if that's what the student needs that week. Flexibility is built into how we work.

What happens during summer or school breaks when the tutor's college isn't in session?

Most of our tutors continue working through breaks, either online or in-person at the college if the tutors remain on campus during that vacation. We'll let you know in advance if a tutor has a gap in availability and arrange coverage with one of our other tutors — in-person or online — in the required subject.

Do you offer in-home tutoring?

Occasionally, if the student lives very close to the tutor's campus. Most sessions take place on or near the college campus or online. This keeps sessions in an academically focused environment — which tends to produce better results.

Is tutoring worth the investment?

The families who see the biggest results are the ones who commit to a regular cadence — typically once, twice, or three times a week. One-on-one tutoring with a student from an elite college, who genuinely understands the material, is a fundamentally different experience from a tutoring center or an app. Most of our clients stay with us for multiple semesters.

How do I get started?

Email Ryan@ShiresTutoring.com and mention which tutor and college town you're interested in, or fill out our Request a Tutor form. We typically respond within one business day.

How much improvement can I expect working with Giana?

That depends on where your student is starting and how consistently they show up. Giana will identify the specific gaps, focus sessions on them, and adjust as the student progresses. Families who stick to a weekly schedule typically see meaningful progress within four to six weeks.
